New Beginning for Golf Course at the Orangeburg Country Club

Challenging and exciting, the Orangeburg Country Club unveils its redesigned golf course developed under the leadership of award winning architect, Richard Mandell.

The Orangeburg Country Club (OCC), owned by Pin High Visions, LLC, unveils its newly designed golf course.  With renovations led by the award winning golf course architect, Richard Mandell, the course has been restored to its original Ellis Maples design.  The course has been upgraded to meet modern standards, including 7,000 yards, a 2.3 acre short range practice area, and 122,000 sq ft of restored original greens complexes.  The official unveiling begins Friday, October 30th at 4:30pm with a tour of the course led by Mandell. The ceremonial first shot will be hit on Saturday, October 31st at 8:30am.

The Orangeburg Country Club is beginning a new phase in its 88-year old history with an upgraded and redesigned golf course and short range practice area. What began with a 1963 aerial photograph of the original Ellis Maples designed golf course has now become a modern and exciting course that features challenging and dramatic bunkers, 8-foot wide concrete cart paths, and scenic views of the Edisto River.

Mandell was selected as course architect because of his versatility and design experience.  He was recently named the 2009 GolfInc. Private Course Renovation of the Year Runner-Up and has received the 2009 Builders Excellence Award.

“This course is a restored Ellis Maple classic, but with new twists that will make it one of the more challenging golf courses in the state,” said Mandell. “The best golfers in the state will be challenged, but the course is also very player-friendly to accommodate more amateur golfers.”

Commenting on the unveiling, John Worley, CEO of Pin High Visions, LLC, said, “This is only the beginning.  Much is in store for OCC members and guests.  Our future projects include an upgrade of the clubhouse, pro shop, tennis court, pool, and club restaurant; all with the goal of creating a first-class community and family oriented country club.”

To enhance the golfing experience, the OCC also features a PING® Club Fitting system and video swing analysis. All golf equipment has been updated to properly maintain the course at its highest level.

Following the tour on Friday evening, the first shot will be hit on Saturday morning by Jane Covington, the co-founder of the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association and a member of the SC Golf Hall of Fame.
